Dear Newark Citizens and Community Stakeholders:

While many cities have experienced a resurgence in the wake of the global recession, the spoils are not finding their way to inner cities like Newark. I will not stand by as mayor and watch as the region around us and the nation as a whole, moves forward into the 21st century. For far too long the focus has been simply on poverty reduction and not empowering Newark residents with the ability to build lasting careers & businesses.

As Mayor, the aim of my administration will be to seek an effective middle ground between government and market based solutions. We will seek to enact government policies that will encourage private sector investment. We have a vision of a Newark not just sustaining, but prospering with a diverse and vibrant economy where all Newarkers can enjoy the fruits of the city’s resources.

As I have stated before, what’s needed for our city is a transformational change. This cannot occur without partnering and inclusiveness. My administration will collaborate with the business community and the neighborhood’s residents. It is my goal to use the Office of the Mayor to foster partnerships among the city’s businesses, non-profits, schools, colleges and developers with the residents of Newark. This transformational change will require new and innovative ideas and I will bring a fresh perspective to our city’s problems.

Our plan to generate quality jobs and promote lasting economic development has 4 key elements

1. Developing economic clusters to foster small business
2. Supporting strong neighborhoods through intelligent land use
3. Enhancing workforce development
4. Leveraging Port Newark

Effective municipal management starts with the example set by the mayor. Our administration will be one that embraces new and innovative techniques to solving our problems and generating greater opportunities.
