NEWARK, NJ – May 7, 2014 – Demonstrating widening support in Newark’s Latino community, mayoral candidate Shavar Jeffries today received the endorsement of Essex County Freeholder Rolando Bobadilla.

“As a Latino representing Newark on the Freeholder Board, I am proud to support Shavar Jeffries for mayor,” Bobadilla said. “Shavar Jeffries is far and away the best candidate to move Newark in a new direction. Shavar Jeffries has offered real solutions to make our neighborhoods safer, our schools better and our economy stronger.”

Bobadilla was elected in 2011 to his first term on the Freeholder Board, representing District 1, which includes the North, East and parts of the Central and West wards. A resident of Newark’s North Ward, Bobadilla is of Honduran descent.

“I am proud to have the support of Freeholder Bobadilla,” Jeffries said. “It’s encouraging that so many Latinos in Newark share my positive vision for moving Newark in a new direction.”

Jeffries has widespread support throughout Newark’s Latino community, including North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr., Councilman-at-Large Carlos Gonzalez, state Senantor Teresa Ruiz and Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin. His ticket represents the diversity of Newark and includes East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador and former Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo, who is running for an at-large council seat.
