Earlier today, I joined with my brothers and sisters of Teamsters Local 97 to announce our endorsement of Shavar Jeffries for Mayor of the City of Newark.

We took this decision very seriously because Local 97 represents 2,200 men and women who work and live in Newark. Our brothers and sisters deserve to have a mayor who has their back and is ready to fight for the future of Newark.

Only 5th generation Newarker Shavar Jeffries will be that mayor.

I want to clear something up: Shavar Jeffries’ history of fighting for workers’ rights is outstanding.

I know Shavar will be ready on Day One to confront the challenges facing Newark workers and families. He has the resume and track record to back it up.

Our working families need safe neighborhoods. Shavar has tested solutions for reducing crime and supporting at-risk gang involved youths. As the third highest ranking official in the Attorney General’s office, Shavar served as an integral leader in the design and implementation of the statewide crime plan that reduced crime three years in a row.
