The summer months are almost here and a change in season is a perfect time to switch up your bedroom décor. Updating your bedroom has a range of benefits and doesn’t necessarily need to be an expensive or time-consuming task.

Refreshing your home’s appearance gives you the opportunity to try out new ideas and unleash your creativity. Different colours evoke different emotions and uplift your mood.

Changing up your home with new furniture, soft furnishings and decorative pieces can also be a fun activity to do with your family or housemates.

Redecorating your home can be a little overwhelming but picking one room to focus on is a great place to begin. The bedroom is an important space and one we tend to spend a lot of time in. Here are a few simple ways that you can update your bedroom for the summer:

1. Create More Space

While in the colder months, we tend to want to feel cosy and warm. With the summer months approaching, it is time to put away the blankets, hot water bottles and rugs.

Creating more space can help with the room’s airflow, which is beneficial for keeping you cool. While larger rooms may have large closets or wardrobes, for those with smaller bedrooms and little more thought needs to be put into storage.

Multi-purpose furniture is great for small bedrooms. For example, ottoman beds from places like Divan Beds Centre and storage benches or chairs are functional and provide handy storage space.

Now the warm weather is approaching, it is also a good time to create more draw and wardrobe space. Try sorting through your clothes, donating those you no longer wear and storing warm winter jumpers and coats in the attic.

2. Add Some Colour and Bold Prints

Summer is the time to brighten up your bedroom and make it a fun and creative space. Bold colours and prints are a great way to do this.

If you are looking for a more permanent decoration option, adding printed wallpaper or painting a feature wall is a great idea. Get some samples and think about how each option makes you feel. Yellow tones can be uplifting and provide energy, while blue is calming and ideal for relaxation.

Do not be afraid to mix different prints as this can make the space a little more interesting and unique. You may want to stick to one colour palette that you can adapt across the different seasons.

If hoping for a quick, inexpensive way to update your bedroom that isn’t permanent, adding cushions, wall prints, vases and other accessories in your chosen colours is a simple solution.

For small rooms, large mirrors can create the illusion of more space and help to reflect natural light around the room. Mirrors can be hung on the wall or stood up in a corner. Mirrored furniture is an option too, but only if you are prepared to polish it regularly.

3. Install Some New Blinds

Of course, one of the best things about the summer is the sunshine and the natural light that now shines into your room for most of the daytime. In summer, you will find that lamps and main lights are switched off for most of the daytime and evening.

However, if you live in a populated area or have neighbouring properties facing you, you might find yourself drawing your curtains for privacy and missing out on the sunshine.

Installing shutter style blinds can help with this. Adjustable blinds allow you to let some light into your bedroom wallpaper without allowing nosey neighbours and passers-by to see into your home.

Whether your budget is big or small, there truly are endless options for updating your room for summer. Now is the time to get creative and try out some new design options.
